ROFLMAO!! Good one. However, now that you mention it, when going to the track if one had a small squirrel cage blower with pipes to fit into the cutouts, one could blow cool air in there until race time!

Very interesting, indeed.

I may be copying your system soon. ^_^

I don't mean to be a spoilsport, and It definatley sounds like your system is bringing in "cooler air" than what accumulates " under the hood", BUT

You need to do a "before and after" comparison. All we know right now is how YOUR system works. We don't know how well (or bad) it was working before. I doubt it, but it is possible that the "by the filter" temps are no better than it was before. I'll bet that at 40 MPH there is quite a bit of air moving under the hood already--perhaps enough to sweep away the stagnant air and keep things at ambient temp, or close to it.

Maybe if you have a buddy with a "normal" CAI and no "hillbilly tubes", put the thermometer on his car and see how it works.

I've heard tell of dealers and service techs turning their "noses up" on regular mods. WTF are they gonna do when they see this ?
With a little "tweaking" you'll be able to store popsicles in the cold air box, or at least chill your moonpies and RC's.

JK, glad it works for you.

Great, I'd like to see how it works out. If it ends up having a significant improvement over stock, then you can bet I'll work on something similar for my car.

I can save you some time. Your stock setup will produce temperatures that are similar to your current setup.

Last summer I did some data logging on my C&L aluminum intake with a Preadtor tuner, and got the following results:
- At 40 mph the inlet air temperature(IAT) was the same as the ambient air temp(82 F at the time).
- At a stoplight the IAT increased to 110 F(+/-).
- Resuming to 40 mph the IAT dropped back down to ambient.

CrazyAl is correct.
The forward motion of the car forces the cooler and heavier outside air upward under the hood, where it displaces the hotter and lighter underhood air, and the outside air flows into the air intake.
But when the car is idling at a standstill, the force that pushes the heavier outside upward under the hood is no longer present. And since heavier air cannot naturally flow upward to displace lighter air without an applied force, the hotter underhood air now flows into the air intake.
