I have 18x9's. My car came with 17" bullits. The ride is definitely stiffer and handles better with the wheel/ tire change. The offset is 24mm and pushes the tires out a little. i think that is also somewhat responsible for the seemed better cornering.

The 18s are heavier, but aren't the tires lighter? I'm sure the net effect is slightly heavier.
