Default 2006 GTO...not a problem!

I was driving around town the other day and came across a 2006 GTO at a stoplight. The guy nodded, so I knew he was ready...we both smoked the tires a little in first, then I did again in second...ended up beating him by 1/2 a car length at about 90 mph (thought that was good for a 45 mph speed limit.) It was great!!

My question is what are the optimal shift points for our cars? I have a stock 05 mustang GT 5 speed. I smoked the tires a little in first, drove it to 5.5k, shifted to 2nd at 6k and then again to third at around 5.5k. Are those the best shift points? It seemed to work...

Those GTO's have a hard time griping the ground, if you run in to some one who knows how to drive a 06' GTO and would not be pretty for a 05 GT STOCK

I ran one with my auto and it was obivous my auto beat him. His car sure sounded like it was fast, but he couldn't hook up off the line. We only went to 60mph. He waved and was cool though.

I love hearing stories like these. As far as shift points I go by sound and feel. I'm practically stock like you. Maybe one of those big guns like hawgman, silverposion, chevyeater, oneshortbus could intervein and we both could learn something.

Stock around 6k, with a CAI/Tune and exhaust you can go to 6200 no problem and still make power and keep here in the sweet spot... I think at 5,800 you are leaving alittle on the table...

Like I said they have a hard time hooking, and a good GT driver will take him more than not, but when they hook they are good for to high 12's stock

You have honestly seen one hit 12's on street tires? Just asking cause the ones I have seen at the track were slow. I have seen about 4-5 and all with stock tires. They were all in the high 13's low 14's.

GTO guys say the same thing about our cars. In stock form w/ equal drivers 05+GTO> GT. It's a good race with the 04's. Just telling the cold hard facts. The GTO guy should get a driver mod.
