Default Nitrous. What is the verdict?

Will somebody entertain the question? I saw a 2005 or 06 running nitrous tonight at the drag strip. Is it benefical or is it harmful
to the engine. How expensive and how frequent do you have to change out the bottle? I haven't seen many here talk about it. I like to hear your opinions. Thanks.

It is no more harmful then forced induction when done right. Nitrous got a bad name early on because the kits were not very good and people installed them incorrectly on top of that... With technology today you can almost have a bullet proof nitrous system in your car. A base kit will run you close to 600 dollars. I would then spring for RPM switch, fuel pressure cut off, TPS switch, Fuel pressure guage, A/F guage, Nitrous Pressure guage, Remote bottle opener(for convenience), bottle heater/chiller (to make sure bottle is around 900 - 950psi). At the end of the day you are looking at a bit over 1000 dollars before install to do it correctly.

When I had a 75 shot in my S2K a 10lb bottle was good for 1.5 minutes to 2 minutes worth of spray depending on the temp of the bottle. I filled the bottle up once a month for around 30 dollars. Before the spray my friends GTO put around 3 cars on my S running from 60 - 120, after the spray I put 3 cars on him... huge difference.

if installed correctly and tuned correctly, it will be fine, if you just half *** it and go to a 125 shot straight from the start you will have problems

Nitrous is no more "cheating" than running a turbo, supercharger, methanol, or nitro. They are all ways to get more oxygen in the engine.

+1 ScreamingYellow & wannarun!

Nitrous is very effective and safe if the kit is properly matched to your car and used under the right conditions.

Assuming you have enough fuel, a safe tune, and a propor setup; how large of a shot is reasonable on these cars?

The only drawback that stopped me is that I do not want to have to load a tune for the nitrous that is mellower than my custom tune everytime I want to spray. I can see it now. Wanna run? Sure, let me pull in this parking lot and spend a few minutes swapping tunes first.

lol i dunno its just me. for track numbers and races and such, its wonderful, and especially with a proper tune, its an excellent poweradder, but refilling the bottle, eh, its not like always there, u know?

Does anyone use the ZEX kit? It seem like a really good kit from what i have read on it. Just curious what the owners of this kit say...Thanks
