Were there any side effects from the reduced gap? In other motors I have had, using HEI's or MSD's, bigger gaps gave better idle and milage. My mustang is actually my work service vehicle so low rpm performance and milage as well as HP are a concern. The BAS, active only under boost, seems like having your cake and eating it too. Thanks for the responces, they are appreciated!

I didn't notice any changes when I gapped the plugs. In fact, the exact opposite. When I didn't gap the plugs, I was fouling a couple of them within 500 miles. I still don't know why. There have been some talk that some of the HTO's just seem to be bad but this happened to me 3 times! Once I gapped them, I wasn't getting any fouling, just losing spark at high rpm.

From where your standpoint is, I think it would be a good idea and do what you want. I know what you are talking about with other motors but I honestly don't think gapping is an issue on these modular motors if in that range. (.032-.035) I think if you exceed .035, you would have some issues. But to specifically answer, I think you wouldn't need to gap with the BAS and be just fine.

But still use the HTO plugs with FI.

Sean Hyland says the BAS is a good solution for FI and N2O power. Especially on a 4V that you wind up. It will ALLOW you to run more gap. When it comes to the Mod motor, what's good enough for Hyland is usually good enough for anyone else, usually.

I have HTO plugs gapped at .032 and was losing spark at 5800 rpms on 14 psi. The granetelli coils seemed a solution but seemed pricey. I went with the BAS and it worked just fine. I had it set for a 25% boost and I had no spark issues through 6800 rpm. I am finishing up a new motor now with 18-20 psi and plan on setting the boost at 35-40% for a 7400 rpm spin. Gapping the HTO plugs .032-.035 works well enough up to about 530-540 hp at under 13 psi. If you are going to be in those levels, I don't think you will need the BAS. if you exceed them, you probably will.

Hope this helps.
How did you diagnosis the spark blowout?

What were the symptoms you had @5800rpms?
