Default CAI fuel efficiency

I am looking at some cold air intakes, probably with a tune. Because my Mustang is my daily driver, I would go with an 87 octane tune. I was wondering what kind of mileage I would get. Better or worse?

Thanks

Does everybody agree it gives you a noticeable power increase.

Yes, with a proper tune you will have a significant power and performance increase.

Why are you dead set on an 87 octaine tune. Is the two or three bucks per tank that it would take to get a higher octaine really going to make that much of a difference in your finances? If so, I recommend that you run don't walk to the nearest place you can to trade it in on a hybrid.

mine is my daily driver and im running a 91 octane tune on it and getting 2 more mpg's. cant go wrong with the 91 tune and the cai with the performance/better mpg you will get. and YES there is a noticable difference in performance.

Initially, the mpg will drop. And I'm sure you know the reason why.

Here's the math I figured out last week, and Why you Must Drive with 91octane or higher tune.... :

87 tune = 24.1 mpg on my car (two tanks of hwy driving to get base #)
91 tune = 26.2 MPG after 3 tanks of hwy driving (plus had more power..)

gas fill up was $1.55 more expensive for 91 ocatane
mileage was 372 for 87 octane
mileage was 403 for 91 octane
which means that I needed 1.28 gallons less fuel to travel the extra 31 miles.
At current gas prices, I saved $4.03 on less fuel and paid $1.55 more for Premium,
Net savings is: $2.48 per fill up... GET 91 Tune!= save Money = better power

Matt-

P.S. We can't get 93 octane here, but I'm thinking it will be as good or better..

I would go with a higher octane tune if I would get better gas mileage. So far with my car stock I've only been getting 13.5 mpg.

oh, yah.. my intown mpg sucks.. if they wouldn't put stop lights and stop signs all over the place.. we wouldn't be able to acclerate so much..
darn my in-ability to drive like a normal human..
but the quote on the MPG was all steady hwy mileage on a few road trips i've taken.. definately not in town...

I have a new 06 GT conv. I was wanting to put on a cool air system and a tuner. Will this void the warranty for my car have only 1600 miles?
