4.10 gears or 3.73 gears?
Hey what's up. So my dad wants me to post this question. He owns a 2006 mustang gt. He wants to put different gears in the rear end but is not sure whether to go with the 4.10 or 3.73 gears. It's an automatic trans and is used for just commuting between work and stuff. The car is pretty fast but he's use to an 86 mustang with about 500 horses under the hood. (which he sold to me ) so anyways he wants a little more pick up from the start. I've deen some searches on some post but keep getting mixed answers. So I'm just wondering what anybody thinks and maybe some experieces. Thanks for your guys help.

4:10 will kill your top end however if you don't plan on going over 120 mph I reckon you will be o.k. Most people here will tell you 4:10s. If I have the luxury I myself would go 3:73s'.

Changing gears is not for the novice mechanic. I would use a professional mechanic and a very good one at that. Gears are tricky because if you do not install them correctly they will whine or even worse blow up. Find someone you trust and that has worked on 8.8" ford rear ends before. I would also recommend 3.73 gears with an auto.
