Default Windshield Ding

Well, I have had my new 'stang for exactly 17 days. Today, while driving in to work, a d*** rock hit my windshield and left a ding. On the outside of the windshield, there is only a little surface mark. However, between the layers of glass, there is small circular mark (resembles butterfly wings) that is less than the size of a dime in width.

Should I just call a shop like Safelite to come and fix the ding? Will the repair work be noticeable afterwards?

Thanks for the replies!

YOur insurance should cover it, its a saefty issue. But, if that is too much of a hassle, coat the top of the ding with clear nail polish, itll keep it from spreading.

Thanks for the reply, P Zero. I don't mind spending the money...I just want the repair to be unnoticeable.

I've had the same thing happen to my other cars, any auto glass repair/replace outfit can do the repair. They vaccum the area while applying the glue so that most of the lines go away but I could still see a hairline where the chip was (no more butterfly though). More important is that it prevents the chip from turning into a crack (and spreading across the windshield).

I called a couple of shops about the ding. Because it is on the driver's side, they both stated that the windshield would need to be replaced...they are not allowed to repair any defects in the "field of vision." This stinks!

I sure hope that a replacement will look like new and is not noticeable.

It might work out for the best. I think our factory windshields are crap. I have several pits and none of them are from tailgating. It seems that anything that touches the glass will mar it. Maybe your new one will be better material.

Good luck

I didn't realize that it was on the driver's side. I've been told the same, no repair on the driver's side.
