Default Jack Placement

I need to take one of my rear weels off. Where should I put the floor jack to raise that wheel without damaging anything? Thanks

I'm not sure the exact location and names... but the area on the suspension where you connect the rear portion or your lower control arms is where I jacked mine up. It's really hard to find a good solid piece under there except of course the axle. The only thing is jacking up the area I told you will also lift a good portion of the rest of the car so just be careful. You can probably put it on your rear end housing too.

you mean the OEM jack?

there are slots on the underside frame just in front of the rear wheel and just behing the front wheels. very straightforward. OEM torque on the wheel nuts is 100ft-lb.

True. When I got my car the wheel locks were in the trunk. So I installed them and torqued down the locks with a torque wrench that I recently had the calibration checked on.

All the lugs on the car were at 75-80 ft-lbs at the most.

If I were you, I would go around and check them all.

Not to sound cheeky, but the manual shows where the designed jack-points are.

I thought thats what he ment (jack that came with car) but then I thought he ment a real floor jack like the shops have because he said "floor jack"?? so I deleated my orrigianl answer to him because I did not know the floor jack answer.

Cheeky or not, those are generally a lousy place to put a floor jack... They are designed for the screw jack in the trunk with a narrow wedge to fous the weight correctly...

Floor jacks often cause those welds to crack...

On the Axle out towards the tire where the LCA connects is a fine place...

Ok, stupid follow on question. I jack my car (2000 GT) on the side rails. However, I went to pick my car up from the garage where it was getting new rotors and pads to see that they had stands on the lower suspension arms right next to the joint with the frame. This is exactly where the workbook tells you not to jack!

Not really sure what damage you could do here, any ideas? I guess you could bend the bolt holding the arm on?
