Take it back to the dealer and ask them to reflash the computer with the stock tune. I've had two S197's. An 05 and 06, both M5's. I've never experienced the throttle lag with either but did notice a big difference in accel with the Predator canned 87 and 91 tunes, especially on the 05.

You guys can also try and recalibrate the throttle servos yourself.

Get in the car and turn the key to the on position. The wait until most of the warning lights go out. Then slowly push the gas pedal to the floor and release it slowly also. About 3 seconds per down and up. Turn the key off wait 30 seconds and then redo the same procedure again. This will recalibrate the Servo. Then take it for a spin and see if it has changed. I did this with my car and it helped tremendously.

Excellent advice, thank you!

Won't disconnecting the battery also flash me back to the stock tune? By the way, where did you learn that gas pedal trick? :P

I think it was posted here. Sorry I can't recall i visit a few Mustang Forums and it is hard keeping track of it all at times. As for disconnecting the battery when you have the car programmed with a Tuner No you will not revert back to stock the stock tune is inside the tuner.

yea, but im only 17, im lucky to have this car in the first place and still have another 10 grand to pay off before i can CAI/tune it. they won't let me mod it until i pay it completely off.

im just pissed that the car responds so poorly to throttle inputs. my 2.4 liter honda element did better. its frustrating cause i know the car has the potential but it just falls flat on its face. also it dies above 5 grand. WHY.
Well this may sound a bit harsh, but at 17 you're right, damn lucky to have the car. The car runs 13's bone stock so it's not slow, I think comparing throttle response to a Honda Element is nuts, you and I both know that simply isn't true. Deal with stock until you can afford to do something about it. Until then be glad you have it, thank mom and dad every chance you get. I asked my dad for new jeans at 14 and he told me to get a f***king job so you're one lucky guy.

If the car is having major issues it's time to have the dealer check it out. Also, you can tune the car with no CAI to get better tip in performance and get better MPG to boot, maybe if you explain the car will get better MPG they might let you get it.

Good luck.
Here here!! I couldn't help but think the same thing after I learned you were 17. Dude, you're driving a $30,000 car instead of a $4000 beater that most "kids" your age get to start out with. You should consider yourself lucky, love that car for everything POSITIVE it offers you and quit bitching. Geesh, you said "it pisses me off" about 4 or 5 times....AND YOU'RE DRIVING A NEW MUSTANG!!!!!

I feel old saying this, but damn......kids today!!!!

How bout you give him a break. If he's 17 and bought the car himself he has the right to bitch like the rest of us. At 17 all I cared about was beer and girls and my 73' Mach 1. If he's bustin his *** to have the car he deserves it. Stick to the issue he's complaining about.

I hate to say it dude, but I finally gave in and bought an SCT. It's well worth it. My advice is to get one, put it on and DONT TELL THEM

Which, actually brings me to the question - If you are paying for the car , who the F are they to tell you what you can do with it?

Youre payin for the car and the insurance - it's YOUR CAR - get the tune and just dont say anything about it. They don't drive it right? And if they did they wouldn't know the difference

the car is not titled to me. its not my car technically. they are my parents, they made it possible. i still owe them about 7G.

i have given up so much to get this car. much more than just 15 grand of my own money. lot of stuff i did for my parents, grades i had to get, etc. i did a LOT for this car. and im paying for nearly all of it. so seriously, cut me some slack. my first choice was to buy a friend's $5500 fox. but my parents thought this would be better/safer/more reliable. so seriously i wasn't just handed this car on ANY level. and i appreciate it more than anybody else my age. im sick of people telling me im spoiled, etc. i worked for it. like, really hard. and i pay for all my own **** too. clothes, food, (except when i eat at home), etc.

and yea theres stuff wrong with it. theres PLENTY right with it if u know what i mean. but for all i did to get this car; i want it to be perfect. some things just bother me. just because i find things about the car i'd like to improve on doesn't mean that i don't appreciate it. don't tell me to stop bitching. this is mustangforums. if i have an issue with the car, im going to express it; whether im a millionare and its chump change or im 13 and got the car for free. its nobody's buisness to tell me if its moral or not that i have this car; ESPECIALLY if you don't even know the circumstances of my acquisition. focus on the tech issue and don't worry about whether or not i deserve the car. JUST BECAUSE IM 17 DOESN'T MAKE MY OBSERVATION ANY LESS VALID.

i worked just as hard if not harder for the car than anybody on here. if u don't believe me, theres no way i can prove it, so just take my honest word for it.

lets focus on the tech issue here.

when i do the self-throttle-recalibration, it helps tremendously, although not 100% rid of the problem. but when i punch it at low speeds the 1st gear pull is an endless surge of rocket power. but for some reason, second gear just doesn't seem to have the same get up and go; the same oomph. now i know obviously its not going to pull as hard, for obvious reasons, but the amount of power doesn't even seem proportional to me. it doesn't sound/feel like the engine is even at WOT. is this an electronic nanny of some sort or just the way the car is geared?

I apologize if my first message sounded a little harsh. It truly wasn't intended to be. I merely meant that as a teenager driving a top quality car that is the envy of probably 90% of teenagers in this country (and many adults!), I thought you were complaining a little excessively instead of counting your blessings. I stand by that thought too! I'm 43, and though I don't like the throttle lag either, you won't ever see me complain about it because there are so many other things to love about the car -- most importantly that I own one. I agree the lag is a problem deserving of your frustrations, but I firmly believe you should appreciate the car more and complain less. Asking for our assistance with a problem is one thing, but to flame your car the way you did in the process of asking for help told me you don't respect the position you're in with that fine car....instead of with a beat up old rust laden rice grinder. Perhaps I was wrong and maybe misread the underlying message in your post, but I hope you understand my point. Now that I've read a few more of your posts, I now know that you've worked quite hard to "deserve" the car, and I applaud you for that. But again, I urge you to appreciate it more and get pissed off less. I assure you you'll love the car more and learn deal with it's inevitable flaws with more tolerance and patience.

I do hope you get your problem fixed to your satisfaction. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders and a solid work ethic, and I wish you well.

Nick

EDIT: And by the way, FWIW, I never once implied that you don't DESERVE the car. I honestly never even THOUGHT that when I wrote my first message. I only meant that I thought you complained a little too heavily.

I ran it out for the 1st time today, and I agree that the lag is noticable when you punch into it midway thru 1st. But when I hit 2nd, I roasted the back tires. Not chirped, roasted. And I felt the back of the car drop down hard and dig in. I was impressed. It felt good. This was with the TCS on BTW.

Yes, I can find things to complain about, but the more I drive this car, the more I'm impressed.
