That is a flat out BS response..LOL
With a manual you want AT LEAST 4.10 gears with FI. Just about everyone with a manual and FI runs 4.10's and several run 4.30's. The 3.73's seem to be the best fit for the FI guys on autos. The torque curve is higher on the autos and those guys have a hard time hooking on the bigger gears. For that reason, most of the auto guys have found the 3.73's to be a good fit. But those with autos that have suspension work and running DR's/Slicks are also using the 4.10's mostly.
Bottom line, YES - you want the 4.10's on your car when you add the boost.

Turbo lag is old school and not an issue anymore. Check out any of the turbo set-ups out there for the S197's and you'll see what I mean. You can easily run a 4.10 gear and should IMHO.

People talk about traction issues in 1st gear with 4.10's NA. How are you not going to have super traction issues with another 150-200 horsepower.

FI or not, what the car is being used for is important. 4.10's and 4.30's are great for racing and part time use. 3.55's are a good general purpose gear if you are like me and drive the car every day, all day or do a lot of highway driving. I have one car with 4.56's and it's a lot of fun around town, not fun for very long on the highway.
The new mustangs are a little down on low end torque stock and the steeper gears help, but with FI the 3.55's work very well. It depends on what you want to do with the car.
If you do go FI with steep gears, you will definately need tires and rear suspension mods.
I'm sure you will have fun either way!
