Default 6800 rev limiter?

A lot of the tunes set the rev limiter all the way up to 6800. Isn't this dangerous? A heard a Ford mechanic talk about a blown engine due to over-revving on an 05. I set mine down to 6500. Is it ok to go above the 6250 factory redline? I don't want to damage my engine. Sometimes I hit the 6500 rev limiter.

I take my car to about 6700 at the track. If I thought it was a problem I wouldn't be taking it that high since it is my daily driver. I wouldn't recommend taking it that high very much. The only time mine goes that high is once or twice a month. Don't make a habit of it and you will be fine.

i think you should just look at a dyno sheet, and see where the car stops making power, and beyond that, theres no point in setting the limiter much higher than that. unless the GT has some sort of electronic nanny that closes the throttle or pulls timing close to the redline?

There is a torque nanny that pulls timing as you approach the redline. I set mine at 6850 and have my shift light set at 6200. I am just leaving my torque band at 6200 and stay off the nanny by having the limiter set higher. As for the engine gernading at that rpm, mine was pulled to 7k during test runs on the dyno with no problem.

MusiccityGT I asked you this on another thread but I don't know if you answered because I can't find it anymore. What tire sizes are you running?
