Macs are no doubt the best looking axleback out there and they are loud, not too loud but loud.

I've had the SLP's, too obnoxious for my taste. I then went with the Ford Racing Borla's, I love them!

Maybe I got some defective SLP LM's (I doubt it because it's just straight pipe) because I think they sound awesome and I will eventually be adding a different midpipe/headers for an even louder sound. LOL.

well, it depends what you want. the main runners for the s197 are:

SLP Loudmouth-good, powerful, loud, and deep sound. raspy, not a huge amount of drone. LOUDMOUTHS

Borla/FRPP: DEEP, loud, expensive, drone, more refined and less raspy. Borla Catback

Flowmaster: slightly louder than stock, sounds slightly tin-cannish due to the lack of packing. Flowmaster

Corsa: beautiful sound, no drone, but seriously expensive. Corsa

JBA: JBA

MAC: MAC AXLEBACKS, with o/r x pipe

I guess I'll chime in here. Like everyone says its all about your taste. I purchased Corsa's after listening to all of the above mentioned exhausts at club events. I paid 575.00 for them which is higher than the rest but I don't have drone and it sounds awesome!!!! I get so many compliments about the sound.
Good luck.

Great post on different axel backs. Others to consider:

IMCO - original "flowmaster" type sound. Extremes and ProSeries. Extremes very deep, loud, some drone, Pro series not quite as much and recommended for Autos.

FRPP M5230-GTA - these are the Shelby mufflers made by Supreme performance. No good sound clips on stock H-pipe, but here is one with the FRPP X-pipe. Slightly louder than stock, but deeper, more mellow tone.

FRPP/Borla Stingers FTW !!!!!!!!.....They are not one of the "common" choices but they sound mean as hell, and aren't so loud that you can't hear people talk or the radio !

That's not what mine sound like though, I think that's the relaxed version not the Type S Stingers....Mine are a bit louder and deeper and rumble better....
