Default Gears!

I'm thinking about making the jump to 3.73s or maybe even 4.10s. I have the stock 3.55 now with my 5 speed. I was wondering what kind of performance gains I could expect from different gears. Anybody done 1/4 mile testing comparing 3.55s to 4.10s? Would I notice a difference between 3.55 and 3.73? What about fuel mileage?

I recommend doing a search. There are numerous threads about this (one is under 4.6 V8 drive train performance right now).

For your 5spd manual, you will want to go from 3.55 to 4.10.

A 3.73 ain't quite enough of a bump for the price you pay to have them installed.

you heard wrong, my buddies 99 got 21 with a t-45 (.67 5th gear) on the highway, 05s have t3650s (.62 5th gear)

In my personal opinon, 4.10s on auto, 4.30s on 5 speed, also, these are not pushrod motors, they are modular motors, which means they like to rev to make power, another reason to go with them

I've looked through recent threads and haven't seen anybody posting performance gains from gears. Does anybody have numbers from the track?

06stangGT---No probs on highway for me. I drive 75% highway, 25% city. At 80mph I am at 2900 rpm and my mileage went down from 24mpg to 23 with 4.10's. Its no big deal at all.

therobman7----Stock manual is 3.55

Go 3.73's for an auto since it has an OD of 0.75. You will tach approximately 2500 @ 75 and 2000 at 60.

4.10's are a bit too much for an automatic, but are perfect for the manual which has an OD of 0.68.

With 3.73's in an auto and 4.10s in a manual, they are basically geared the same. Technically the automatic will have a slightly lower gear ratio, but it ain't that much:

Manual final drive ratio = 4.10 X 0.68 = 2.788

Automatic final drive ratio = 3.73 X 0.75 = 2.7975

As you can see, the automatic with 3.73's has a slightly lower gear (higher number) than the manual with 4.10s.
