Just came back from the track for the first time....
and ran a 15.5? The car is all stock with the exception of 20" Foose Nitrous wheels. Where I live, the elevation is about 4500 ft. Now, the track sucks, but I still figured I would do better. I definately need to work on my take-offs. Despite the slow times, I beat a Turbo VW GTI and a 98 GT, but got my *** handed to me by a Lightning. I guess the question is, how much is the combination of the elevation, the wheels, and the crappy track costing me?

Depends on what kind of rubber you have on them 20's. A stock GT with a decent driver you should be under 14 (sea level). So between the elevation and crappy track/launch it is costing you a second and a half.[:@]

The 20's probably took some time off, but only a .1-.3 tenths probably. Being at a high altitude hurts n/a cars much more than a forced induction car. You have to deal with whatever thin air exists, while the force that thin are into their engine, making it not so bad.

According to a altitude correction chart I have at 4500 feet your 15.5 comes out to about a 14.6. I got those factors from here: http://www.wallaceracing.com/altitudecorrection.htm
You can also take a look at what your trap speed would be at sea level as well.
Chances are you didn't do so well on your 60ft/launch and that is what cost you most of your time.
At your altitude and 20" wheels I would shoot for breaking into the 14s first. Also it couldn't hurt comparing your times to other S197 GTs to get a good perspective of what you can expect at your track.

Not to make you feel bad, but I ran 15.5 with my stock sixer the first time I had her out. You should definitly be able to get better out of it than that.

Yeah, but I am sure you are nowhere near 4500 ft either, unless WI has some super high elevation tracks. Your 15.5 where he was would probably be well into the 16s.

I think there is something up with the track too. I came to that conclusion after talking to the guy who had the GTI. He said he ran 14.2 at sea level, and I took him. Also, there are no time slips issued, no et's, nothing. Just an old airport with two lanes to run in and a generic looking clock. I think I'm ok, considering that a S281 ran a 13.9 and a mach 1 ran a 14.5. The fastest lightning out there was running 14.1 (modded).
