check engine light on!

check engine light on!
my check engine light came on on the way to school today. i have no idea what it could be; i haven't even beaten on the car in 2 weeks. for some reason, it feels like the clutch is slipping real bad; though its always pretty inconsistent with the throttle and clutch. my throttle is lagging again; the self-retune has again worn off.
any ideas? the car only has 17k friggin miles on it and i've done all scheduled maintenence.

RE: check engine light on!
Check engine lights will can ONLY be thrown by a bad sensor, or a reading from a sensor that is out of its specified range. But if your car has only 17K, take it back to the dealer and make em warranty whatever is wrong.

RE: check engine light on!
Being under warrantee, I wouldn't mess with anyone but the dealer. The Autozone idea is great for an older vehicle, but warrantee = free fix by the "pros". Not to bash people that work in parts stores (and even dealerships), but we all know that some of them should not becuase they are clueless. If the dealership screws something up, you're covered. If someone else does, you may not be.

If your car is stock and under warranty, definatley take it to the dealer. They'll fix you up.
Otherwise, get out your trusty tuner (yet another reason to have one), scan the code, and see what it is. You can never have too much information. Even if you end up taking the car to the dealership or a mechanic to get fixed, you'll want to know what is really wrong. You don't want to get billed for $1000 worth of work if the only problem was an oxygen sensor out of whack or a single spark plug....
