yeah, can't really guage during the race, no one hardly ever takes off with same reaction time. . . but if its ever really close(reaction time). . . then that would be the best measurement

it also depends on how fast... a 15 sec car is not that much faster then a 15.5 sec car but a 10 sec car will be much faster then a 10.5 1/4 mile

Simple math. The car that ran 12.3 crosses the finish line to start the clock. The car that ran 13.3 is running about 103 MPH. This calculates to 151 feet per second. So about 12 car lengths or so. All other things being equal such as reaction time, etc.
