Dont think it would really matter what or who's poweradder/tune 450+ rwhp on the stock internals is already a asking for a disaster. So he was really pushing them @ 500hp. A better question is for how long have you been pushing that hp?

Att. Andrew
I disagree. I think it matters quite a bit. Was it a high PSI power adder ( i.e. Procharger ) or a lower PSI power adder ( i.e. twinscrew ). Or was it a turbo since they are new to the catastrophic failure scene for S197s. And I also think who tuned it is important too. As well as how long it lasted at that level, driving habits, etc.

I already said that amount of hp to the wheels is already asking for trouble. Anyone that has been running that power can certainly tell you this. Sorry to say but with 500hp to the wheels any s/c will be pulling 10+psi, with a twin screw pulling more lbs than a centrifugal because twinscrews tend to add power down low and centrifugals on the high end. You are chasing a dead goose. Wouldn't really matter the tune or driving habits or anything like that; you are already pushing the engine at 450rwhp and you are just waiting for the dreaded boom. So add 50rwhp to the equation and I hope you get it by now. Unless the tune had to much timing in it(15+ on pump gas) or was over 12.0 in a/f I dont think the tune had much to do with it. He was just stressing the engine a bit. I would go after the tune if he would had been pulling 400 or less rwhp, but with that hp and breaking a rod is the owners fault.

We all know that pushing past 450-ish is asking for trouble.

However, I too would love to know the specifics of this failure...that way I can make sure I avoid a similar setup in the future!

JDM builds 4.6 SB with forged internals.

It amuses me that you say this like I don't have 500 to the wheels....

I completely disagree. There are way too many S197s making big power that are not blowing up. Sure, internals are crap. And it is pretty well known that these cars are hit and miss as to who got a good one and who got a not so good one.

I will agree with you on the a/f and the timing though. Thus the reason for wanting to know perticulars on the setup, length of time, tune, etc. Was it a new setup that popped, or an older one that just gave up. Did he jump from stock to 500, or step it along and reached the breaking point.
Sorry if we are wasting your internet by wanting to know perticulars...

This car has made 500rwhp for almost 6000 mi. getting beat on alot I knew it was only a matter of time.
I ordered a stoker today to solve my problem, but to answer your question I have a P1 Procharger
12psi pulley,Fuel pump booster, ATI flowcharger Fuel controller, hooker Long tube headers and x-pipe with flowmasters,TCI 3000 stall and 3.73 gears.

Well to be more exact 15000 mi. stock, 2000 mi. at 450rwhp, and 4000 mi. at 500.
