Downpipe Question
This may be an easy one: I just bought Borla Stinger axle-backs, and while I'm sure I'll be content with the otherwise stock exhaust for some time, I'd like to eventually upgrade to some kooks, hi-flow cats, and x-pipe. Can/should you use stock downpipes with this setup or should you buy an AM downpipe? Does Borla even sell the downpipe separate from the axle back?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Can you explain what you mean by "downpipe"?
Typically a downpipe is only found on a turbocharged car. It's the pipe which travels out of the turbocharger's turbine and travels down out of the engine bay. Needless to say, this is not typically found on a mustang.

Got it!
Generally we call those the over-axle pipes, though I don't think there is any etched-in-stone term for 'em.
Anyway, the stock ones are fine. There is a small crimp in the passenger's side, but it's nothing major. I wouldn't hesitate to use the stock ones unless you were pushing more than 500 HP...then you might see a little benefit to going to a full catback instead of an axle back. (the difference is that Catback includes the over-axle pipes. I don't think you can buy them individually)
