Motor Oil Colors...
Hello All,
I was just curious..this may be extremely stupid, but..
I have a brand new 07 GT...5 speed, 3,000 miles on it. Not serviced yet.
Checked the oil...not honey clean...a little brown...not bad, but still not as clean as I thought it would be. I mean, i have a Suburban with 150,000 on it, and it doesn't look any cleaner..
Is this normal...should I get that oil changed?
Thanks.
Also...I don't drive the car very fast...don't accellerate quickly...pretty much take it easy.

I would have changed the oil at 500 miles 1st, then every 3k. Theres something to be said about the 1st 500 of miles.

Hi Stoenr,
Exactly! 500 miles for the first oil and filter change is the bestpractice I've found. I'm an old school guy and recommend and do the same for all newly assembled engines. In the case ofmy S197GT I dumped the factory oil and filter at 500 miles and installeda stock Ford filter and 6 quarts of fresh dino oil. I thenchange the oil and filter again at 3,000 milesusing 3,000 milesas the standard inteval during break-in. In testing, 3,000 milesfor me is about the right mileage to change oil and filters based on simple oil contaminant testing. The right mileage varies depending on yourlocal conditions, the air filter you use,the oil used and how you drive.I always use a straightdino basedoil,NO synthetic at alluntil the rings getfully seated usually somewhere between8K-15K. People don't realize how long it can take to break-inmodern rings and the only way to know is to test your oil using contaminent levels and oil consumpsion. Once the rings are fully broken-inI useMobilfull synthetic Mobil 1oilwiththe SAE weight recommended by the enginemanufacturer along with a Mobil 1 filter (very good by the way), and changethe oil and filter every 4K-8K miles depending on what theoil contaminant levels look like.
