midpipe and axlebacks, no headers worth it?

midpipe and axlebacks, no headers worth it?
I don't want to spend the money on headers for my car, and don't want to have to worry about emissions and having to change them etcetera, so i was wondering if it would be worth it to just go with a midpipe and axlebacks? would the midpipe net any gains, or would it be a purely sound mod? thanks? Just wondering because i just drove my car and i think it sounds great stock, and ive heard that the stock exhaust is very good anyways.
thanks

RE: midpipe and axlebacks, no headers worth it?
Depends on what you want to do:
Axlebacks are a sound only mod.
Changing the midpipe is just as much of an emissions issue as headers are. Remember, the law is that you cannot move the cats at all. You also cannot replace them unless they have more than 50,000 miles on them, and then you must replace them with something just like OEM. So, an off-road midpipe or a midpipe with high-flow cats is illegal wether it's by itself or if you do it alongside headers. The only legal way to alter your midpipe is to cut it up AFTER the cats and then modify that part, but leave the cats alone. About your only option there is to convert the "H" to an "X". That's worth a small HP gain (less than 5 for sure) and a change in the sound.
That being said, switching to an offroad pipe can be worth as much as 10 HP.
