Don't trust jackstands? Never heard that one before.

Any of you that are working under your car w/ just a jack and no jackstands are out of your mind!

If you plan on working alone, the best option is to drop $20 grand on a hydraulic shop lift so you can stand under the car. Otherwise, stands or blocks work well. [sm=badbadbad.gif]

actually drop top - for those that don't know you can have a lift installed for about $2000

i use jackstands AND leave the jack under somewhere just in case. you can't put a price tag on safety. don't buy cheap - get quality stout-built stands

Screw the jack, I change my oil with the car sitting normal...

BUT, it is a pain, and I cna only do it because I got long arms. Anyone know some reliable brands for jacks/jack stands?

I use the same and it is a 4 ton jack with jack stands at the frame rails or control arms
ORIGINAL: CrazyAl

A 3-ton floor jack (Craftsman) & I have several jacks stands, 3-ton and 8-ton sizes. I prefer the larger ones because they are more stable and the provide more height to work under.

Never work under a car supported by a jack only. Always block it up with proper cribbing or jackstands.

+1 to stands.....as said never trust just a jack to support the car if you are workingunderneath. You life isn't worth being to cheap to go and buy a set of jacks for 30-50 bucks!

make yourself a couple of drive ups with some 2x12's. Lifts the car 3 inches which is great for the oil change and also for swapping out the axle backs. I have four and the car is up on them for the winter. 3 inch lift all around.

Same here. Went to Kragen and got probably the same ones. They are a plastic material, and are rated for 8000lbs. Also have a big lip in the front, so you know you won't go over like I have done in the past with other types that didn't have a lip. And the angle to drive up isn't steep so I don't hit the lower part of the car. Then to be safe I have chocks I put behind the wheels that are on the ground.
