50,000 miles???! ARe you kidding?
I drive 1,000 miles a week for my work in my 07 stang. I fully expect it to last the 130,000 or so I need til I trade. It will stay stock and I use Mobil 1. I generally stay off the pedal. Do you think I'm dreaming?

I did not say they would last 50k miles, what I meant is if you did an average of the GT with miles on it the higher end number would b 50k miles. 25k a year most people who owned a 05 have only owned it 2 years or so.

Now the reason this is pointless, is because NO can say for sure since not many or if anyone even has 100K miles on it. I am sure they will last as long as you take care of it. But the question is pointless and premature since the cars are only on its third year of being made.

Think abou it how can anyone answer this question with out having cars with 100k miles on it to compare. TO early to tell.
I thought the 4.6 3v has been in production for a while and used in other vehicles?

My friend has a new Ford work van and he has the 4.6. Do they make a lesser variation with 2v?

Good question. I thought the 3v was new engine for the mustang. I could be wrong.

The 3v is only in the mustang and explorer. The CV, GM, TC, F150 and E150 all get the conventional 2v of the past.

I beleive the Lincoln Navigator has been running the 3V since 02, maybe 03. They had it in their cars a few years prior to Ford running them. I know Lincoln is a part of Ford, but because it's considered the "luxury" (if you can call it that) division of Ford, they get things earlier sometimes. TheExpedition didn't get it until 05 and the Navigator already had it fora few years.

These are good engines! If maintained pproperly and not beaten to death, they should last for 150-200k easily.

This is going to be a tuff question since these motors are new. I am sure the 05 owners are not going to have to much more than 50k miles tops (this is alot!!) Kind of a pointless question IMO
That's way off, IMHO. Cars today, with their more exacting tolerances and with fully synthetic oil, you should be disappointed if you achieve less than 100,000 miles. Bottom line: if you abuse this car, like any other car, every time you drive it, then don't expect it to last forever. Just because it carries the Mustang badge, doesn't mean it's immune to abuse. If you drive it normally (i.e. not stomping it all the time), and baby it a bit, it will last longer. Basic rule of thumb for mechanical machines.

For what it's worth, The 4.6L 3V VVT engine has been listed in Ward's List of the Ten Best Engines in the world (sold in US) from 05-07.

The Expedition/navigator got the 3v in 2005. It is a 5.4 3v though. The 4.6 3v is only in the Mustang and Explorer/Mountaineer.
The Navi got a 4 valve 5.4 from 99-04. The expedition never got the 4 valve.

Like others said hard to tell at this point, but my bets are for a looooong time.

My 95 T-bird 4.6L 2v had 250,000 miles on it when I sold it. The guy is still driving it.
I beat the **** out of it too. Delivered pizza for a while, and even took it to the strip a few months before selling it 16.6 @ 83 mph, lol. 205hp tank.
Always did my maintenace, oil changed every 3000 miles with regular valvoline oil.
I think driving it hard may be better than to baby it.

Again I am not saying the last only 50k miles, I am saying that no one has one of these stangs over 100k miles yet so there is no way to tell how long they will go. But i am sure they will last. ....You guys need to listin I said if you want to compare engines with miles that these new stangs have it will be hard to find a motor with more than 50k miles yet. Not saying they wont last we just cant compare numbers yet. In 2 or more years we will have a better idea about these motors.

It's all a question of how you maintain it. I would guess with regular oil & filter changes, normal services, don't beat the teeth out of it, I'd guess 200K miles.
