Default another evo 8 thread

Okay so i just spent the last half hour searching in this V8 for stories, times, ANYTHING that has to do with the evo VIII . I could only find a few threads but they didnt answer my questions. So if I missed anything, or if this is a repost, SORRY!

A buddy of mine...has a friend, that has an evo VIII that he claims to be stock. Now im not a big fan of these little 4 cyl. turbo cars that everybody seems to be getting now. I know that they can be pretty fast, but I still don't like them. He also claims that this evo can take my "little V8" hands down, no problem. And of corse im not going to agree. We would have already raced, but both our cars are in storage for winter. (the evo, i have no idea why). We are going to race, but we have to wait about 5 more weeks. So to my questions now. What will the turnout be if his "stock" evo raced my car right now with my exhaust and short throw. and the second question is, with the C&L intake with 91 or 93 tune vs his "stock" evo, what would te turn out be? I have taken into consideration the AWD, turbo whatever, weight...and so on. I have also taken in that I added about one hundred and twenty pounds with my system and weigh about 130. I also have the 18" fanblades.

any input would be great!!!

In my opinion, right now he would take you.

But if you got the CAI and a tune, it would be pretty close.

an VIII will run low 13's stock no problem.

I think Stock EVO's run like high 12's or low 13s. With them being AWD they will usually get you from a stop and there horsepower/low weight gives them the jump from the start. You will gain on him if you have a chance to hit 100mph. Trust me from experience. But he will probably have atwo possibly three carson you by that point.

You would probably get beat from a dig unless you are amazing at launching but you would probably take him from a roll due to turbo lag if he actually is stock. If hes not watch out.

dont get your hopes too far up, i just joined the forum but i have definetly done my share of racing now and then... those evo's are quick... stupid awd's..... and the stock quarter mile times are in low 13's... i was able topullon an evo (not sure ifwas stock) and i have intake and tune, shorty headers, and catback... u should be good though considering the fact that mine is an auto... if an auto is capable of such, im sure u will be there..... or more....

well, i suck at launching. I have tried several times but i dont think im gonna get it right until i get rid of the lag with the tune. I have read up on here on how to launch then i go out and try it and i either bog down to nothing or sit there and spin. I have tried reving up to 2k, 3k, and 4k , slowly let the clutch out bla bla bla....I still can't get it right. So it looks as if he was right. Im still debating if I want to do gears this summer or next summer. If i can find someone around here in Syracuse NY to install them who i can TRUST, then i will do them no problem. What would I need to take this guy?

Add a 4.10 gear, CAI and tune, and a good tire and you should be fine from a dig or roll if he is stock. With those mods, some say high 12s or low low 13s are possible. Remember, he has to drive the crap out of his car and do a high rpm launch to get low 13s too, its not like he's driving an auto with all kinds of traction control goodies and just has to stomp on the gas pedal. Also, it is in the launch where they get the good 1/4 mile times. Look at their trap speed and their 60' times, you should be in the 105-108 mph to be hitting low 13s / high 12s I think (I could be wrong though) and they don't.

I've raced three Evo's and beat 3/4. The one I lost to is the only car i've ever lost to in a race and was by two cars. I feel I only lost this one because there was three other people in my car and I had just gotten my cams installed 30 minutes before I raced him and I felt they weren't fully seated in yet, since it was running slower than before the install. Anyway that was from a roll and ironically that was on my way to the track.

So anyways when I got to the track I ran against him and ran a 13.3(crap I know but it was a ****y track and my first time with cams) and he ran a 14.3. This race was when I was only at 306rwhp now i'm at 346rwhp.

I also raced another Evo that I met at a gas station for $50 from a 45 roll and I took him by a car when I just had my intake & tune, lowering springs, and catback with one extra person in my car. I won the $50 btw woohoo! This guy had intake and downpipe according to him.

Last I racedone more evo from a dig at a stop light and this time it's with intake & tune, gears, and catback. Also one extra person in the car again so at a slight disadvantage, but this guy was also in an Evo RS the fastest evo model. He was modded with intake & full exhaust and some other minor things he said, but I launched and he had me by half a car and then I pulled a car and ended up having him losing to me with his nose right by my passenger door at 95mph.

Nice kills. The MR is the fastest model and the RS is the base. Evo's are probably my favorite non-exotic car. My friend got me hooked on them ever since he took me for a ride. He said I could drive soon. I can't wait.
