Default aluminum or iron?

[align=left]As some of ya probably read, my stepdad's block went bye bye. He's looking at forged setups since he's getting one at cost. I know the stock block is aluminum, but he can get an iron block with forged pistons and rods, but with a cast crank, for $2050. The blower is still going on it. My question is, would it be worth just getting the iron block, or should he pay the extra $400 for the aluminum?

+1, aluminum FTW with sleeves. Lighter means better weight bias front-to-rear. Also cools easier than iron.

First of all, whywould you want to put a stock cast crank in it? Doesn't make sense to me. As I read the other post, the origianl went BOOM. Now that you are going to build a new bullit....do it right the first time! I know you will have to modify and buy motor mount brackets to bolt in the iron block. How much of a pain, I don't know. You are saying the you can get the 05-07 aluminum block for $400.00 more. Ok that's $2450.00 This is what I would do.....buy that set-up, throw away the stock crank and put in a cobra crank (rebalance of course)and Boost away .

if you did in fact read the other thread, then you'd know it's not MY money. my stepdad would be fine with a stock replacement even. it's easy to tell someone to go all out on something when it's not YOUR money.

OK Nanaki, first off,I did not mean my post to come off in any mean orbad way! All I am saying is, if you are going to run the same set up, then built it right the first time with the right parts. To me, it makes no sense to put the stock stuff back in it with the same set up that windowed the block to begin with.

Thank you.

ok. kinda hard to tell on the internet. even if he puts a stock block replacement in, it should hold just fine. there had to have been something wrong with his other block to blow at just 400RWHP. my 2v held more HP than that for a year before i upgraded my stuff (stock block was still fine). he just wanted a vortech and make about 420RWHP or so and that woulda been the end of it. the stock 3v should have done that no problem.. SHOULD have being the key word.

Iron block is stronger and more reliable.

Al block is much more difficult to build correctly.

Iron weighs a whole lot more than aluminum. If your car is lowered you'll probably have issuses
