why replace the rear end girdle?

RE: why replace the rear end girdle?
The stock one is just a thin sheetmetal cover, and is not a "girdle".
The so-called "girdle" covers are aftermarket only. They have several features that are different from stock:
1) They are made of very thick, high strength, cast aluminum. They stiffen the rear end housing to make bearing deflection less of an issue at high loads.
2) They have drain and fill plugs so that you can more easily perform maintenance on the rear end.
3) They have support bolts which support the carrier bearing caps. This strengthens the rear end as a whole and a decreases the chance of carrier or gear failure.
...on a stock-ish car there's not much of a need to get one of these. But, if you are getting a power adder of some kind or you are getting to some low ETs (which heavily loads the rear end) then this can help save your diff from expensive damage.

RE: why replace the rear end girdle?
Just bought the FRPP 'low profile' cover along with the 410A gears and a master install kit. Will put them in weekend after next. The cover is definitely a beefy piece and looks good.
Bought it primarily to make fluid changes easier although helping to stabilize the gearset can't hurt

ORIGINAL: Timmay!!!
Good call! I wonder of the FRPP girdle has a low enough profile to clear the panhard bar after lowering?

In speaking of girdles. I'm trying to decide if I should go with the Roush girdle or Ford's

RE: why replace the rear end girdle?
You need to be very careful. There are several different Girdles for the 8.8" Ford rear end on the market, but very few of them fit the 05-07s. The reason is that the cover must be very low-profile to clear the panhard bar.
I only know of two that work: The LPW and the TA Performance/FRPP one (TA Performance makes them for Ford). Whatever cover you get, make sure it fits a 2005-2007 Mustang.
Older mustang GTsalso have the 8.8" rear axle..so the cover will fit onto the axle...but the older design covers won't clear the panhard bar.
