Shelby GT - MPG After Conversion
Something interesting about the Mustang GT to
Shelby GT conversion:
The starting Mustang GT gets 17 / 25 mpg
AfterShelby GT conversion it gets 16 /23 mpg ?
I can see the hood scoop causing a liitle drag, but what's
going on here........I thought the cai + tune helped mpg....

RE: Shelby GT - Gas Guzzler Tax -
If I'm not mistaken, the Shelby (4.6 L) has a different exhaust than the standard GT. I would guess that this exhaust releases more emissions, so would justify the gas guzzler tax. As I understand it, it's essentially an emissions tax.
But, I could be talking out of my ***. That's just what made sense to me.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it but I know the EPA Gas mileage ratings have all changed now for cars 2007 and up. They re-did the way they rate cars MPG. You can look it up on I think Edmunds even and see what your current car would get accroding to the new ratings. When I looked up the 2005 Mustang GT...our MPG went down to 16/23 I believe.

That is interesting, I will have to look at how strict they are now.
I've got 4.10s, and nearly all the bolt-ons and I still can maintain 18.5 mpg on mixed city/highway driving in hilly terrain.I flog my engine and cook my tires daily too.
