starting on about the second day i got the car. i noticed that sometiems 3rd gear is a PITA to **** to. i'll be cruising and when i go to shift to 3rd it just acts like its locked out, no grinding, it just doesnt go. Then i'll slam it into third and it will be ok for a while but its really odd. could it be the synchros? i might take it to the dealer tmw since i still have my sixer, i can just drive that around for now.

It's not the synchros, and there is nothing unusual about your car. This is really common. The problem is that the shifter on these cars is mounted to the BODY instead of the transmission. Therefore, when you are shifting under power, the movement between the engine and the body makes the shifter bind up.

The fix is to get stiffer motor mounts or the CHE K-member brace with torque limiters. This will stop the engine/transmission from moving around so much and binding up the shifter.

Some aftermarket shifters help, but that's not really addressing the problem. A simple workaround is to let off the gas just before you shift...but that isn't any fun!

Well since I don't feel like making a new post about it... I'll ask here...

I have a problem when trying to shift hard into 4th gear... redlining it... It only happens when I'm pushing the car to 6k rpms, other than that there's no problem getting into 4th. But when it does happen, my car just like starts going out of control, I've saved it both times luckily, but I'd like to know if anyone has any idea whats happened? It feels like theres something blocking my path into the gear, It happened before and after I've installed the hurst shifter.

As CrazyAl said, this is common. I went with the CHE K-member and torque limiters. Problem solved.

Mine has developed a interesting third gear whine under acceleration in the last couple thousand miles. Not sure what that is about. The sound is nice actually, reminds me of 60's muncies,but a bit concerning.

As far as the 2-3 shift. I have not had trouble in the longest time.

Mine locks up sometimes under a downshift from 4th. If I just let go of the pressure and try again, it goes in real easy.
