It's a 5.4 4V. If you've never been, go to: http://www.svt.ford.com/ and read up on it.

To answer the post, I think that if you're looking to have a nice car that goes fast, go with the GT and a blower with a decent tune and call it a day. There's only so much power that you can put down to the street. I think a 400+ rwhp GT is just as much fun as a stock GT500 and probably just as quick with 20-40k left over in your pocket.

Been following FRPP and some of the engine builders (SHM, etc.) to see if prices will drop enough on the components for a 5.4L such that it would make a good swap instead of a forged bottom end 4.6L.

No replacement for displacement but I'm not dropping 15k on a crate motor.

Then I start thinking. Hell - I could get a 351W poked and stroked to a 427 and *really* have something.

I refer to that as my Forrest Gump plan. "I figured since I run all the way to the end of the county, I just as well run all the way across the state".

well thats the thing, I was just wondering if you could purchase a basic stock Mustang GT and supercharger it and do a few bolt ons and still spend less money than purchasing a GT500...

if money were no object the GT500 would be the way to go because it starts with more potential-engine wise. and adding $20grand to a GT500 would obviously give you more than adding $20grand to a GT. on the other hand dollar for dollar. if you spent $50grand on a GT500 + air freshener, vs $50grand on a GT with all those mods you would have a faster betterGT, without a warranty and maybe less resale value. The GT 500 is a SHELBY. those 6 letters are expensive but hold alot of clout.I have had a hard time deciding this myself. I think by the time GT500's come down in price I will have put enough money into my GT where the decision has been made.

Buy a GT then buy the GT500 crate engine. Problem solved.

is the gt500 a 4v or 3v motor? i have never found out this question
GT500 is a 5.4 liters32 Valve engine, thus is a 4V

If I ever found a GT500 for MSRP, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I know I could S/C my GT and make it as fast as a stock GT500, and that is how I looked at it for a long time.

Then I started seeing how just a CAI, tune, and axle back brought the the GT500 up to over 500rwhp and then I decided it might be worth it to get one.

A CAI, tune, and some mufflers wouldn't cost me more than $1000, and it would be way to easy to return it to stock if I ever needed warranty work or wanted to sell it down the line.

This is all based on if I can ever find one for MSRP though. Never ever ever ever ever buy a car for more than MSRP ever ever ever ever ever ever.
