Default 700.00 bucks for Gears

I asked my dealer for the install of the 4:10s for my auto and they quoted me 900.00 give or take a few bucks. I got a quote from a local mustang performance shop for 700.00. These quote seem a little high for a 200.00 part to be installed. What do you guys think. The two prices are parts and labor.

most can find 400-500 parts and labor. Make you the shop knows what they are doing though.

Approximate Prices on the high end of the scale:

Gears: Under $200.
Install Kit: $100
New gear lube & additive: $50 (though this varies a LOT depending on what you buy)
Labor: 3 hours is about right. At $75/hour this is $225.

Total for parts and labor: $575.

I just did my gears and install was 300 even thanks to the extra suspension crap that had to be pulled off for acess. But the labor rate here in Cali is 90 bucks an hour. If you are in So-Cal I got a guy that I would higly recommend for the job. American Muscle in Riverside Ca. Guys name is Kevin. 951-682-2262. Anyone in So-Cal I'd definately recommend taking your car to him. It was out in less then 3 hours with no problems at all with whine or anything. I have over 300 miles on the gears now and have been beating the hell out of them.

Yeah $700-$900 is definitly high.

When my gears were done it cost me between $150-$200 to have them done, can't remember the exact number. I would say you shouldn't have to spend more then like $500 MAYBE $550 for parts and labor.

Airwing. I'd definatley take another car back to him if I had to. For one he's just a cool down to earth guy that talks cars and 2nd and more importantly the quality of the work speaks for itself.

You can buy a complete rear (take-off)with several different gear selections on e-bay for around $800. Just unbolt and install.
