I and almost anybody else here will dissagree with that statement.....a tune is worth more than gold IMO. All an intake does is get a little more air. Without the tune you cant get any real performance (no timing, spark etc). With my B ama tune 3rd gear screams like a bat out of hell. 3k and up is amazing.
And I agree that this thread isnt going to give any good info because there are TONS of factors. The driver being one of them.

we have 2 GT's manuals. One with K&N intake and S&B Intake. One has an SCT Brenspeed tune the otherone is stock. The diff. is a little not soooooo much. These cars woke up with the intakes. Now, a GT with CAI&Tune Vs. stock GT (no intake) is a big diff., I think an intake that requires no tune is good enough for our cars. I'm getting a tune for mine to compensate for Nitros, but for a stock car CAI that doesnt require tune is good enough. I drive my wife's GT (tune) and back to mine...not a huge diff. Maybe better throttle response and a little up top, 4000rpm and up.
If I was you I would get CAI and save up for some 3.73,3.90, or even 4.10 gears. Now these you can notice a huge diff. in take off.
see ya.

I have the Brenspeed SCT tune in my wife's GT with K&N CAI. Mine only has S&B Intake no tune. I do have an SCT tune from Brenspeed coming with 87,93, and Nitros tune. I am installing a ZEX 75hp shot kit.

Ive never driven a tuned manual, but my tuned auto is COMPLETELY different from stock.
Theres so much more involved with an intake and tune combo rather than just an intake replacement. Sure, you get more airflow than stock with just the intake, but with the tune, you can up your octane, adjust your A/F, take off the speed limiter, take off the rpm limit, advance the timing, adjust the shift points, remove throttle lag, and Im sure theres more I left out.
Point is, without a tune youre missing out... if you cant tell that the difference is huge ... either your senses arent acute enough, or you got a weak tune. Maybe your wifes tune is not a performance oriented tune (Brent does make mpg tunes as well, with less aggressive parameters), or perhaps the computer has learned her driving habits and adapted the tune accordingly? Try reloading the tune to see if that wakes it up a bit, if not, give Brent a call about a more aggressive tune.

Good point, I will call brenspeed and ask them. I did called them once cause the car pinged at any tune 87,91,or 93. They told me to run 87 tune with 89 octane or 91 tune with 93 octane. This stopped the pinging. They also told me that the dif. between 87 tune to 93 tune is marginal. They told me to run 87 tune with 93 octane when spraying Nitros.....

With B A M A C H I P S 93oct race tune i ran 13.18 @ 106.40 with the mods in sig minus the 4.10gears. Thiswas with a 3800lbsor morerace weight. I'm hoping the 4.10 gears will get me 12.90's pass.

Same day, same 60', same mods...
Brenspeed 93 octane Tune: 13.09 @ 104mph
B ama 93 race Tune: 13.007 @ 106mph
These runs were within 35 minutes of each other.
After the off-road H-pipe, I ran with just the Brenspeed tune and ran a 12.95 (see my sig). I forgot my tuner that day so I couldn't put my b ama tune one. This was with a 1.95 60'.
Since then, I've gotten drag radials. Once I learn how to launch with them properly and have my 4.10s installed next month, I'm expecting mid-12s. My next trip to the track, I will test the Brenspeed and B ama tunes back to back again to see if there's any difference besides MPH.
