Tinting of taillights. Illegal?

RE: Tinting of taillights. Illegal?
I was behind some large sedan today that had the smallest/weakest tail lights i'd ever seen on such a large car. We were coming up to road contruction that had one lane block so traffic had to stop. There was a semi coming up behind me and I was thinking, i bet he couldn't even see the tail lights on that sedan. I like our tail lights even more now.
I rear ended a camaro in high school that I'm pretty sure had either tinted (real dark) or painted over his tail lights. I didn't even think about it at the time, but i will be looking at anyone tail lights that I rear end now (knock on wood).
don't tint your tail lights.

More than likely it is illegal. Plus you have the problem of a driver who rear-ends you can claim they couldn't see your brake lights because of the tint.

Think about what would happen if you had a person in front of you with tinted TLs. When you rearend them, you can say " I didn't see the brake lights'. Not being funny, its a serious safety issue.
