Default Transcooler

I was just wondering if anyone put a tranny cooler on. Do they really help?

yes they do. but switching to Amsoil synthetic ATF would do more than transcooler alone. Both would work great together. Amsoil is the only ATF approved to work on most automatics. Even the nit-picky Honda tranny in my RSX that require only Honda Z1 fluid. I did a whole flush with 100% amsoil in it and it worked wonders. People have tried Redline ATF into their Honda/Acuras and reported failing transmissions and odd shifting. Amsoil needs no additives.

Usually after a hard or track run in my RSX, the trans would slip every gear b/c its overheated. (heat=bye bye trans). After the switch to amsoil+cooler, the tranny never slipped anymore. heres a copy n paste from amsoil.

Resists Oxidation and Thermal Degradation
AMSOIL ATF resists thermal and oxidative degradation better than conventional transmission fluids, protecting clutches, planetary gears, valves, pumps and seals from damaging sludge and varnish deposits. AMSOIL ATF helps prevent component overheating and ensures cooler, smoother transmission operation. Provides Low Temperature Protection
AMSOIL ATF outperforms petroleum fluids in low temperature fluidity. In fact, AMSOIL ATF offers twice the cold temperature fluidity required by current automatic transmission fluid specifications. AMSOIL ATF provides easier starting, faster warm-ups, smoother shifting and improved fuel economy. Antiwear Protection
AMSOIL ATF provides smooth shifting and long, trouble-free transmission life. In addition, the antiwear additive package makes AMSOIL ATF an excellent lubricant in other hydraulic systems. In tests designed to measure wear characteristics under severe service and high pressure operating conditions, AMSOIL ATF far exceeds the requirements of hydraulic equipment manufacturers. Extends Drain Intervals
AMSOIL ATF is a stable formulation that lasts longer in service than conventional ATFs. It maintains its viscosity, friction and lubricating properties for extended periods of time, even under severe conditions. AMSOIL ATF maximizes transmission performance and service life while
reducing maintenance costs through longer drain intervals.
After great experiences and results from Amsoil (even oil analysis'd my motor oil), i am very impressed with it. amsoil outlasted my M1 motor oil. I cant stress how much i love this amsoil atf. My bro's scion tC is about to make the switch also.

Amsoil's quite pricey, but if u're serious about it, let me know. i know a shop next to me that sells at dealer pricing to me since i shop there a lot. (not allowed by Amsoil...shhhhh). I'll do it as a favor to you guys (no profit for me, i'll show receipt)

oh and as for transcoolers, be sure you get Long's Tru-Cool LPD type. Not bar-and-plate style. they do not cool as efficient. The LPD type (B&M also sells) has a seperate channel for fluid to flow faster when the trans is still cold and need lubrication. As fluid warms up, it becomes thinner and channels into the smaller channels to cool.

I run 2 trans coolers and my trans temp averages a whole 90º.

Even on a full pass starting on the transbrake - the highest I see is 190º

The 2 trans coolers were the best mod for the trans for me. I have the biggest pan possible and no matter additive you put or what kind of fluid you use, NOTHING beats VOLUME. The more fluid you can run - the cooler your system will be...period.

BTW - one of coolers has a fanpack that is on 24/7 and that helps quite a bit too.
