S197 clicking noise
Okay, I'm really sorry if this is a repost - but the search feature seems less than reliable.
I've got this clicking noise from the engine - not sure where. It's apart from the clicking of the valves, etc. (I think)
I noticed on the "what has your mustang been to the dealership for" thread someone mentioned it too, so I doubt I'm the only one.
Does anyone know what this is?
ALSO - Does anyone know how to look up what TSBs our car has been in for (for those of us who bought used)?

RE: S197 clicking noise
The 3 cars I have seen/heard a noticible 'tick' (my own car is included here) ended up being a couple lifters gone bad. You should be able to stick your head under the hood and listen carefully. If the sound sounds like it's coming from one specific side, then it is likely you had 1 or 2 lifters go bad. This is not a big deal but can become one if you continue driving the car.
If it is a lifter(s) - then I would get it checked right away. I don't know if this is what it is but I would know instantly if I stuck my head under your hood while it was running and any mechanic should be able to as well. It may just be something else minor, but you don't want to be driving around with bad lifters so I would rule that out first IMO.

Process of elimination! Try the old school trick with a small solid bar or screwdriver,
and touch it to one of the injectors and rest your ear against the other end.If the ticking your
hearing is the pulsation of the injectors you will know, the sound will be amplified.
