Default Alternator took a dump today...

But Jerry's Ford in Leesburg has restored some of my faith in them. I'm sitting in their customer lounge right now. Good thing they have wireless...lol. I was driving down the Greenway coming home from work and the message center popped up with "Check Charging System" so I pulled over and reset and restart, still no dice. So I got off in Leesburg, Went to Jerry's (the dealer I bought the car from and had since pissed me off). They check it out and tell me the alternator has gone the way of the DoDo after 41k miles. No output at all.Good old mexican rotating electrical. They dont have one in stock. My warranty coverage also covers rentals. This is after 12pm so the rental car shops are closed around here, so no rental car. My GF is currently up in PA so she cant come get me. I live 70 miles from Jerry's so they cant give me a ride or a demo car. The the tech pops up and says "Hey dont we have that used 06 on the side? It's only got 1600 miles on it. We can take the alternator off of it and get him home." Now normally I'm not fond of used parts, but since the replacement unit would be a reman of unknown quality anyway, I'm not too horribly worried. Especially since the repair will still have the 12mo/12k warranty and I have the 7yr/100k premium warranty so if it craps out I'm still covered. They went to the sales manager and checked to see if they could scavange parts of it. All is good so far, they are swapping them out now and we will see how it goes.

that is pretty impressive, it's more work for the
dealership this way, but they want to fix your
issue and get you back on the road.

My alternator gave out last year. I think it was because it was used to rotating one way and when I put the Saleen S/C in it rotated the other way. There was blackcarbon looking dustall around where the bushings are. Made my battery get very hot very quickly and my volt gauge swung way over. I had to pay for a new alternator, because the dealership wouldn't cover it, because of the blower.
