It kinda sounds just like when I had a dead cylinder a month ago. Can you check and make sure all the plugs and packs are installed correctly and secured. I had a shop instal a faulty plug and it dead cylindered, did the same thing.

well one thing i found interesting, was why you would have
to change the fuel pump for a non-intercooled kit.

it could be that the tune your running, is for the stock
pump and or stock injectors
Both the standard and HO kit call for the fuel pump and injectors to be replaced.

The strange thing is when I load the factory tune back in the backfireing goes away, the car dosen't make any power but the poping and stuttering goes away.

i just looked at vortech's online manual and
this could certainly be the problem.

perhaps the tune you have is for the new dual pump
setup.

you can either get an older tune from vortech or can
retrofit the fuel pump to match the tune

Yes the injectors are blue and did say 03-04 cobra on the box., another question I had was the fuel pump install. the manual I recieved with the kit called for replacing the factory pump with the one supplied in the kit. The manual i recently looked at on vortechs web site said to keep the stock pump and add the one that comes in the kit to it. Could this be part of my problem?

I installed a boost a pump instead of the pump supplied by vortech and had no problems. The tune should not have anything to do with the fuel pump.

I thought of this but it seems my problem might be too much fuel. if the car was running lean i dont think I would have all the carbon soot comming out of my tail pipes right?

the thing is.....you've gone over the install meticulously
and i believe the install is probably perfect in every way.

the only thing that is out of the ordinary is the fuel pump.

the only other thing that is a remote
possibility is that you are running the
HO tune for some reason....

You need to ensure the install of the fuel pump is correct, and also verify you have the correct tune. Unless you have something more obvious incorrect such as a coil being unplugged, plugs gapped incorrectly, etc. I would bet its either in the pump install or tune.

I thought the same thing so I actually tried the other tunes to see. The backfireing stoped when reved while not under load on the HO tune, but under any kind of acceleration the car would just miss and shutter.
