RE: anyone else with 3650 issues?
^^^ you really think those mods would have been deal-breakers? hard to tie those mods to a trans breaking, and those particular mods might = 35-40rwhp, not a whole hell of a lot over stock to snap a trans...

hey richie, i have experience in your shoes... my 3650 went out at 18k, lost second gear on vacation messing with a terminator cobra... drove it home about 200miles without second and when i got home it got stuck in second. first the problem: rubber bushings and mounts at the engine and transmission under high torque situations flex too much. (example) 1st gear WOT pulls, puts enough twist on the engine and trans that your transmission is moving out from under neath your shifter (which is bolted to the unibody) then you slam 2nd gear, the change in geometry between your shifter and transmission causes the involved parts to eventually break. the correction is to buy a CHE engine torque limiter.(less than$200)and a shifter with stop bolt protection (i.e. the pro5.0,tri-ax steeda, and maybe the new hurst-not sure) its well worth it, i drag race my car all the time with the CHE and pro 5.0 combo and launch at 6000rpm on slicks. and shift at 6300, never had an issue. you can also upgrade to prothane engine mounts if you want and royal purple synchromax trans fluid (i run royal purple in entire powertrain) i dont use the prothane mounts yet but i may upgrade them soon.

I start another thread about me slamming gears (most of the time from 1st to 2nd) im starting to notice something...really really hard to explan, but i know im feeling something.

Some sockets, wrenches, and some time. i work at a car dealership. so i used my lift, and my air tools. its a real eas install, and if your not mechanically inclined it does come with very direct instructions.

^^^ OK the torque limiter seems like an inexpensive enough part, but I just got the hurst sts and it does not appear to have stop bolt protection. Could I get by with just the limiter or will that only be solving half the problem, kind of like doing rear lca's without the uca? I just hate to have spent $190 on a shifter and it have to beswapped out already[:@]
I can't believe ford bolted the shifter to the effing body of the car...and thanks again for explaining it all, I was under the impression that the vagueness of the factory shifter was to blame for the destruction of my second gear, but I guess it was rail flex FTL...
