Default Stock GT Project vs. GT 500

I have not yet bought my Mustang and am contemplating my options. I wanted to get the new 500 HP GT 500, but with it's price tag I would have to wait a while and it's a lot of money. I did some research and discovered I can buy the Cobra supercharger from Ford Racing and have a certified Ford installer install everything to give it 500 HP for under $30K. I was wondering if anyone has done this or if anyone has any thoughts on spending the money on the real deal or converting a GT into what could be one of the best sleepers around! Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad someone else has done it and is loving it! Did you need to buy lots of other parts to go along with the s/c kit? I talked to Ford Racing yesterday and they said all I would need is the kit....

the 500bhp kit is complete.

several of us have installed ourselves, but
others choose to have a shop do it.

either way you'll be happy with the added power

Not too sure what that kit comes with, but an aftermarket fuel pump or a KB boost a pump is a minimum for these cars if you want to get into the 500BHP range. You will find on the Dyno reports that these cars start running lean above 4K without any additional fuel pressure.

I think it will lose ur warranty if that matters to you. a 500hp GT will be faster then the 500hp GT500 because it weights less, but from what ive "read" your pushing it limits were as the gt500 can hit 800hp w/ a sc swape and ive read it canmake well over 500to the wheelsw a/ intake/tune upgrade.

Its something you should really look into; cuz the gt500 isall ready built for hp w/ a built bottom end, etc. maybe a older termi(03-04 cobras) would be a choose for you,imo there still bad *** cars!

gl, there all nice cars.

The FRPP comes with a GT-500 fuel pump and everything you need to make 500 flywheel horsepower.

Just so you know Ford does not support this kit for automatic transmissions, has to be a manual.

If you want an auto you can still get the 400 hp version.

Good luck.

I appreciate all the feedback. It's been very helpful! I think I am going to go with the GT and get the s/c kit from Ford Racing. I looking forward to it! Everything should be ready by early next year so I will have to take pictures and repost and let everyone know how it goes!
PS Definitely going with the manual and I talked to the Ford Racing guy about the warranty. 12 Month warranty on the 400 HP s/c but no warranty on the 500 HP, and if I have it installed by a certified Ford installer, it doesn't void the car's surrent warranty, for those who were curious.
