12v Switched Source?

12v Switched Source?
I recently bought an Autometer Electric Vac/Boost Gauge (with memory) it requires a 12v Switched source that does not turn off while the starter is cranking...
I have no idea where to begin to look for this... I was thinking of just using a switch on a line direct to the battery as a last resort.
I had a Cyberdyne boost gauge that used a 12v switched source that turns off while turning the starter.
I replaced that cyberdyne 3 times because the LED's would flicker or burn out... I don't think they were made for Arizona heat.
Any ideas?

RE: 12v Switched Source?
How about the instrument cluster power wire, does that turn off? I spliced into that for the light to my autometer gauge. It's black with a pink stripe and is in the wire bundle that leads up towards the steering wheel.
It says hot in run or start in my haynes manual.

Use an add-a-circuit in the fuse box. There are two or three unused switched fuse spots. Then run a wire from there.
