who came off a new edge to get their s197?
The reason I ask is, the GF andI have been shopping for a new edge for her...as close to 04 as possible but we've located a clean 02 that we're gonna go look at tomorrow hopefully. Is it a night and day difference, would you ever consider going back to the new edge or would that be likea step backwards? I know the s197s are faster, but I like the look of the new edge and think it would be nice to have a little variety in the driveway, also a straight 04 is about half the price of an 08. We'd be getting a GT 5spd coupe. Mods would be limited to an mgw shifter (the factory one is a little awkward so I'm told) and maybe some flowmasters, she's not a street hooligan/racer like I am, but had an 88 and 94, both GT 5spd's, and can appreciate a nice stang.
Thanks guys...

Had an '03 GT, then an '04 Mach 1. The only New Edge I would own again is the Mach 1, or maybe a Terminator although I know I'd be breaking rearends on it knowing how I drive.
The Mach was a great car..... but I don't miss it at all compared to the '06.

Well for one part, my brother has a 2000 gt 5-spd.
Power is definately noticable. s197>new edge.
And second, the headlights look like s*** after a few years to the point where the lenses are so cloudy that you can't see the bulb.
I say get better mileage, power, comfort, and value with the s197

the lamps can be buffed out easily enough, and the power isn't that much of an issue. Although she's kind of used to my modded s197, a new edge would own her prev. 88 and 94 GTs. But many do comment about the comfort, like you're sitting on the car and not in it, and the shifter being waaaaaaaay the hell out there.
Thanks though.

Good point. Do you have your mind set on either a new edge or 2008. What about a used s197. Mine is.
We have tried every compound set on the market to get rid of the lens haze, everything in eastwood as well. He ended up having to buy new lenses.
And yes, the shifter is quite worse, there is no block from going into reverse from fourth[&:]

I hated my 2002 after I realized the aftermarket world never lived up to the hype. There isn't a bolt on sold other than F/I worth its $$$. Worst stang I've ever owned performance wise....

I had an 03 Mach I. Loved it, but as good as it was, it doesn't hold a candle to my 06 in performance (not counting the mods I've done to my 06), handling,or comfort. As far as looks, well, that's a personal opinion, but if I could have the Mach I's looks with the performance/comfort of the 06, that'd be perfect!
