Default Tuners

Okay I know this has been brought up a million times, but I'm now ready to get a tuner...so many choices, so many manufacturers, Superchips FlashPaq, GMS, Livewire, SCT, etc etc.etc
I'm looking for honestfacts about features and best place/price/service for purchase.
Thanks in advance for your input.

the most popular is SCT or Diablo. I like all the bells and whistles on the livewire, but others may say its a waste of money. but what's money anyway, you can always make more.

Just bought an sct2. I'll let you know how I like it...My brother had one for his f150 and absolutely loved it.

Basically they are all the same....

Everyone seems to get this wrong IMO. CrazyAl once said this:
For these ECUs, the "Tuner" is just a device that stores tune files and then copies them. You can think of it like a DVD player. The DVD player just takes what you put in it and then plays it on the screen. Different DVD players are basically pointless. Any given movie is the same regardless of what player you play it on.

The "Tuners" like the SCT-II or the Diablosport Predator are just like that. They take a tuning file (which is just a big chart of numbers) and copy that file onto the car's computer. The performance changes come from the tune FILE, not the machine which does the copying.
And its true......the physical tuner doesnt matter really.....its the person who is writing the tune. Bamachips, Brenspeed and VMP all write very good tunes. Doug is the only that will sell you a diablo though. A great tuner like a livewire wont make any difference if you have a ****ty tune.

You need to find a dyno/speed shop local to you and find out what they use if you ever plan on getting the car dyno tuned...this is highly recommended by the way. If you by an SCT now only to find out the shop uses a diablo, you will have to buy a new tuner.

I have both tuners and they are really the same, diablo has a few more features maybe, but the SCT loads faster.....but again you want to check you local shops first.

Stick with either a SCT or Diablosport tuner, forget about the rest of them. The Diablosport tuner seems to have more enduser tunable options, but the SCT tuners are more widely supported. With a Diablosport tuner, if you have a 05 or 06 you need U7140, 07-08 is U7145. As for SCT tuners, XCal1, XCal2, XCal3, Livewire; they'll all get the job of putting a tune on your car done, but they all have different options. The Livewire is cool but expensive.
