Default JDM motor mounts - question

Question for those of you that have the JDM motor mounts that lower the engine a 1/2". I'm going to install a Saleen blower in the spring, but I'm going to do a couple of other things first, one of which I'm considering are the JDM mounts. Are they truly necessary with the Saleen S/C? I have a Steeda cowl hood, if that matters, as well as a C&LCAI that I'd like to keep with the S/C. Does installing these mounts necessitate any other changes? Seems like lowering everything a half-inch would change alignment on everything else.

Thanks in advance for the help!

The mounts are not necessary and will transmit alot more engine vibration to the cabin. You can use any flexible inlet pipe with the blower including the Saleen extreme intake. If you have the C&L race intake, it will probably fit or can be made to fit with a little creativity. There are some here who used the C&L street intake wihtout issue, but most will find some clearance issue with that. IMO I would not use the mounts. For the same money as the mounts you can buy a new, flexible inlet tube, or use the stocker if you're not going to over 6-8psi.

You do not need them. The Steeda cowl hood looks like it has plenty of underhood room.

On our show car the Steeda hood did hit in the rear. As you can see from the picture we notched it and it was fine. Although we have been told that the blowers have been redesigned to eliminate this problem. The mounts will cause more vibration but do give a good amount of clearance.

How much are those jdm mounts? Seems I remember them being $200+. I would just buy the regular poly mounts and cut 1/2 inch off the poly bushings. If you have access to a band saw it would be cake, but probably doable with a hack saw.

I have a set for sale, $80 shipped if anyone is interested.

I was curious about hood clearance on the Saleen's too, I have not heard alot about it lately. Have the changed the design? Also any problem with firewall clearance still?

For hood clearance (on the stock hood)I always figured removing the liner would get you almost a .5 - .75 inches.

These clearance issues are the only thing keeping me from really loving the saleen kit.

My install is a week old. I can tell you - no clearance problems with the stock mounts.

Thanks for the replies, peoples. I think I'll hold off on buying them for the moment. I've sent an e-mail to Saleen, so we'll see what they have to say. I'll post up here if I find out anything.

Got an e-mail back from Saleen. As far as they know, there are no issues with firewall or hood clearance. Here's what they said:

The supercharger has not been redesigned. It does come extremely close to the firewall. I don’t know how it fits with the steeda hood as we do not have any vehicles with Steeda hoods. As far as I know, there is no clearance issues. They fit fine under a stock hood.

User experience here on the forums would seem to indicate that there are problems, in particular with the Steeda hood. I think I'll e-mail Steeda (since they make my hood) and Brenspeed (since they've worked on a slew of S197's, and I'll be buying my S/C from them) and see what they have to say. More as I get it...

I use those motor mounts and I use the saleen inlet tube. I feel only a little more vibration then before, I'm sure thats due to the kooks lt/headers and offroad xpype, the vibration I feel now I really don't mind. When I turn the key I love the feeling of my car coming to life.
