Default to mod or upgrade

So I have spent the last few months researching all the best modifications for my mustang to buy when I pay it off next summer, but my problem is I can't see spending upwards of 10K on parts when it will do little to help the resale value, at best I would get 5K back on the parts. So the question is do I upgrade to a slightly used Saleen, Roush, or Corvettefor around $35-40K or do I keep my stang that is a 2005 with5,000 miles on it and make my car out perform the latter? The only thing about upgrading the entire car is the resale value will stay a bit higher.

Hate to tell you but money spent on mods is never gonna give you a return and all cars depreciate the minute you buy them.
If you want to play you need to pay....

I know cars are not a good investment unless it is sitting in the garage for the next 40 years, but I am just trying to get some input. Plus a limited car like a saleen or roush will maintain value longer, because they aren't a dime a dozen.

true, but the reason we spend $$$ on modifying our cars is to customize them to our taste, not someone elses. we do modifications that we like, on our car, because it makes us happy, even if we dont get the money back when selling the car. spending 10k at one time like your description seems like a lot more money then buying a new mod every month ect. im about to drop 600-800 on true 2 balast high/low hid kit for my highs and a hid kit for my fogs on my truck. i bought a 1300 dollar fiberglass tonneau, 350 dollar bedrug, paid a few extra k for the night runner package on my truck, converted all the lights to led, tint, and so on and bought a lot of other stuff as well. why, because i want it/because its my taste/because it makes me happy. i dont care if someone else doesnt like it, because its what i want. but i have have this truck just over 1 year and i know if i bought everything at once, it would seem like a lot more $. also, if you buy everything at once, or atleast if i bought everything at once, i would get tired of the vehicle a lot faster because there wouldnt be anything else i would want to do to it

also, how long have you had your car and how much do you drive it and get to enjoy it? its an 05 with 5k miles? sounds like you dont drive it much. if your only gunna keep it another year, and are thinkin of puttin 10k into it, and will only drive it another 2k miles, why even bother modding it. save that 10k for a better vehicle. but if your gunna keep the car a few more years, and actually drive it, then spend some money $$$

just my .02

+1 You only live once and are young once. I figure if I go to work everyday then some of the extra money can go into my car. It's my hobby, just like when people spend money on they're hobies like golf etc. It's what makes me happy. I remember when I modded my truck then traded it in. I didn't get a dime more, buta buddy of mine asked if I had fun with that modded truck. I said yes. He said then it was worth it.

Cars are a terrible investment. [:@]

If it were me and I could afford 40k for a slightly used vette, I would jump on the vette!! The reason I have the car that I have know is because I cant afford a vette.[:'(]
