Mechanical Boost Gauge? Wideband?

RE: Mechanical Boost Gauge? Wideband?
The widebands are better but I had good luck with a normal A/F gauge. Had a normal gauge on my Focus when I was spraying. When it lost fuel pressure the gauge pegged lean and I got out of it. So that $70 gauge saved me a motor.

According to the instructions for the Innovate LC-1 Wideband Controller the bung needs to be placed as follows:
"On CATALYTIC CONVERTER equipped vehicles:
Install the oxygen sensor’s bung upstream from the catalytic converter (a bung and plug is
included in the LC-1 kit). Any decent muffler or exhaust shop can do this for you. The wideband
oxygen sensor is then installed into the bung to take a reading. (Insert the plug into the
bung when not in use). The bung must be installed in the exhaust pipe at the side or on
top, NOT on the bottom of the exhaust pipe. Best position is between 10:00 and 2:00 position."

Purchase a mechanical gauge, that's for sure. Now, for the wb..........first, only purchase a quality one, like the innovate (what we use). The cheapy ones are junk, Do Not work. They only read from approx. 13 to 16 afr. You will never really know how lean orrich the engine is running!
Mounting....There is noroom to mount the wb on the factory mid-pipe Before the cat.Remember, you will have to remove the wb periodically to do a free air cal. You can turn off the rear monitors and install it there. You willgetlamda (14.7)reading at idle and cruise, but under full throttle, higher rpm, it will be almost 100% correct. The cats are basically inactive at these times....not enough time for burn reaction.
Below are some pics of the stock mid-pipe and of the bung welded in onour Bassani x-pipe.

Taken right from the manual located at: http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/s...C-1_Manual.pdf
Read section 2.4 of the manual for location on where to put your bung..

RE: Mechanical Boost Gauge? Wideband?
The instructions are calling for it to be placed in the same spot as the passenger o2 sensor, but on the driver side. It looks like there is plenty of room there to me, that's where many have placed theirs.

I have the WB from Autometer. It is expensive but it goesfrom low 10 to 17's. For those running F/I in their cars, don't skimp when it comes to safety type items. Atleast safety for your engine.
As far as boostgauges, I have a Greddy boost controler, digital. It's kind of apples and oranges for you S/C guys. The boost does seems to lag behinda little bit.
