Hurst shifter hard to get in reverse

RE: Hurst shifter hard to get in reverse
Could be because it's relatively new. My Pro 5.0 took about 3 months to break in. I used to have to force 5th and reverse. Now it goes with little effort. They told me that 5th will be stiff so it's easier for you to shift hard into 3rd, instead of accidentally pushing it all the way to 5th. Makes sense to me.

Thanks everybody. I'll print up the current install directions and have it taken back to the shop to have it checked for proper install. No problems with any other gear though, just reverse, and that is not 100% of the time.

RE: Hurst shifter hard to get in reverse
I've had my hurst on for a couple months now and its still hard to get into reverse. All the other gears shift like butter though so it doesn't really bother me.

My hurst has a nice feel when it slips into gears all the way from 1st to reverse and i love it.( cept for a small rattle in 4th or 5th at low 1500~ RPM's under load) -Jon

RE: Hurst shifter hard to get in reverse
The Tremec transmission has a Reverse Lockout feature which prevents the transmission from being shifted into reverse without first being pulled to the left side in Neutral. I also had problems engaging reverse with the stock shifter - sometimes easing the clutch out in Neutral rearranges the gears a little and allows it to be shifted into reverse easier.

Yeah the dealer told me about that 1st first before reverse cus I was havn problems getting into rev with stock shifter. Started going into 3rd before reverse now and it accomplishes the same thing. So now I hit 3 before Rev and it slides in smoothly

RE: Hurst shifter hard to get in reverse
I just bought a 94 Cobra a week agowith a Hurst shifter, and I havn't liked it one bit. The thing I hate the most is trying to down shift into 2nd! I have to act like i'm putting it into 1st then pull it into 2nd and it's still hard to get into gear most of the time. I'm going to check on how it's bolted up this weekend and see if it's backwards like some of you said although I'm not sure if my year had the same problem or not... Another thing with mine that I don't like is how it jolts into every gear.It seemslike itkinda trips into gears insted of just sliding right in...
