give us a 5.4!!!

RE: give us a 5.4!!!
I agree completely. They are at the mercy of the government unfortunately.
Of course, if they could build a Focus worth buying again, maybe their fleet average would go up!

You also have to remember that there is still CAFE. Your fleet has to average 27.5 mpg. That's one reason Ford can't sell as many 21 mpg GT-500's as they can produce. I'm sure it also influences the ratio of V6 Mustangs to GT's.

I also read something MM&FF about an 'experimental' motor. I don't know if that was called the Boss engine by other publications.
This new 'experimental' motor is estimated to displace 7.0L. We will see though. I can't wait to hear more about it.

Edit: Granted this is pretty extreme for the street, this new motor could pave the way for better technology. Its still neat to read about.

RE: give us a 5.4!!!
Ford wont give us **** that we want. Look at the past few generation mustangs and we've always lacked power over the gm v-8s. Ford just wants to get our money and make a just good enough product. Not to exceed our expectations, just satisy us a little and get the money. Ford's got a winner with the mustang, unlike many of their other models. How about a base engine on a gt like the 03-04 cobras and tranny also. Not like mustangs are cheap cars anymore.I love mustangs and can't see myself buying another car. But ford leaves a lot to be desired.

RE: give us a 5.4!!!
Thanks, but the thread started off as saying hypothetically speaking and that is what I would like to see in the mustang and with the iron block. 4V's are better than 3V's IMO and weight distribution can be made to be more even (to a point) and if it is like the GT500 (weight distribution wise) than I have no problem. I would mod the hell out of it anyway and if the price tag was 10,000 dollars more for the car base I would still buy it. JMO Later J

The first obvious reason why a 5.4 in the Mustang wouldn't work is because the only version they can build cheap enough right now is the iron blocked version, the aluminum version is/was reserved for the Ford GT supercar and costs $30,000+ for the motor alone. Secondly, It would throw the weight distrobution of the car way off. Even if it did get 4 valve heads, they'd probably struggle to squeeze 400hp out of it. The Cobra R had 4 valve heads and it only had 385hp. If Ford was to ever put the 5.4L in the Mustang, they would have done it long ago. If I remember correctly, there were rumors of 5.4L SN95 Mustangs, so that shows that they looked into putting the 5.4 in the Mustang and ended up deciding against it.

No, it's not simple. Bore and stroke size is not the only difference between the 5.4 and 4.6.

i just don't understand why it's so hard... use the same alluminum block we have now, with the same 3v heads and just bore it over a tad bit and stroke it, i know they could get at least 5 liters out of that... simple enough right lol
