Stabil questions
Hey all,
Being a college student, I don't take my stang to school with me because people can't drive for crap around here. Anyways, that means I leave my car home for months until I return during breaks.
I tell my dad to start up the car and maybe take it around the block to get the juices flowing but I still get concerned. My dad just had to replace the battery since the computer killed the car so its been on my mind lately.
Are there any of you out there that use Stabil? I was wondering if it actually works since I am very skeptical of such fuel additives.

RE: Stabil questions
I just put StaBil in my car for winter storage. One small bottle, then filled the tank up and parked it.
I can't yet attest to how well it works (just bought the car in March, so this is my first time storing it), but I know a lot of guys that SWEAR by it, including most of the locals (Western New York Mustang Club), so I figured I may as well do it.
I'll let you know in March/April. :-)

RE: Stabil questions
I use Sta-bil in my yard equipment and boats for years. I think it does a good job. Be sure to put in enoughto treata full 16 gallons BEFORE you fill up, then put a few miles on it to ensure the mixture getsthrough the fuel linesto the engine so no untreated fuel remains. I even treat the fuel in my gas cans at the same time I treat the other stuff since the cans may sit most of the winter.

RE: Stabil questions
Stabil is basically a petrolium product that helps eliminate the loss of "light ends" in fuel, and protect the "heavy ends" from corrosion or decomposition.
Light ends would be the alcohol
Heavy ends would be all addititves, oils, etc...

RE: Stabil questions
I've used it every winter on my Harley, with no complaints. That's a much simpler fuel system, though, so that may not be a fair comparison. If you have your dad drive it, make sure he drives it long enough to get it good and hot (up to normal temps) - otherwise you're just introducing condensation and not burning/boiling it off. Truthfully, I'd probably just let it sit with a trickle charger on it (like Battery Tender, etc) and change the oil some time fairly recently before parking it. This would keep the battery good and ensure there isn't a bunch of crap in the oil that might cause corrosion. Just my 2 cents...
