Heel-Toe/Drifting
Has anyone tried drifting in their 'Stangs yet? I know 95% of you are only into straight-line acceleration, but hitting the twisties is just as important to me. Hitting the twisties sliding on all fours while trying to maintain a smooth exit line is what has now taken my full attention. I used to drift in a friend's old 240SX (with a silvia engine swap) but what I've come to find is that the Mustang's pedal's are not at the ideal positions for drifting, let alone down-shifting.
Has anyone learned how to adjust the pedal heights? I tried to look but didn't see a way. Maybe there is a kit out there for this? The gas pedal is too deep next to the brake and clutch. I could try reverse heel-toe... but that just feels weird.
Thanks!

I've heard that (mustang pedals not ideal) from a lot of people and frankly I used that as an excuse for a while until I sucked it up and realized it was just different positioning than I was used to (Mercedes, BMW, Porche, etc. all have more laterally aligned pedal locations than this car). There was a good instructional video out there somewhere that used an S197 to demo the (toe-ball) technique and that's what convinced me it was not the car - just my approach.
It might help to get some good driving shoes with re-enforced anterior support (piloti, oakly, sparco - pretty much everyone has them). I had a pair of RBK and Simpson shoes that did not have the extra support and they wore through really quick which indicated I was not getting good grip - hence lack of control.
Apart from that just practice. I've shaved a ton of time off several turns by trail-braking while doing double (and in some cases triple) down-shifts and it just took some practice. I don't drift a lot but I've managed some nice drifts on wide sweepers several times and it felt pretty natural once I got used to the foot positioning.

LOL@dangerous talk like this, but it's easy if you do it the cheap way. Practice makes perfect. Just run through the gears, downshift, and figure out where your tach needle lands. Then you should know how high to rev it next time you downshift. (It's a bit tricky though, since we're drive-by-wire or whatever that crazy thing's called. LOL) That's how I got it down. Mostly because a lot of my friends are track heads, and I got a bit used to it. It does feel better though to be able to rev match/heel toe a mustang. It turns heads, AND it feels better while going into a corner with no unnecessary weight transfer from slipping the clutch to downshift. HAHA. I like road racing

So I'm guessing there is no way to adjust the pedals, ey? Wonderful. And is Toe-Ball just Heel-Toe backwards? Toes on the brake pedal, Heel (ball?) on the gas? I found a TON of great deserted twisties in North Georgia and I really want to get to it on heel-toe.. ing.
PonyGT, Thanks for the advice. Now my girl and I can go shoe-shopping together. It'll be a ball.

Drifting is the second gayest thing on the planet.
Drifting is the second gayest thing on the planet.
Also, were you even slightly aware of the fact that a Falken sponsored drifting S197 Mustang went over to Japan and pretty much wooped the pants off every Japanese car there? How in the world could that ever be GAY?
The imports came over to the U.S. and picked fights with the Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, TransAm, etc etc... andthey put up a damn good fight but ultimately could not outdo V-8 performance. The Mustang goes over there and embarrasses the Japanese at their own game.
Please re-evaluate your stance on drifting.
I don't want to be gay Dave, PLEASE change your mind, PLEASE.
