Default Supercharger ?s - Plugs, high octane ?

Getting dangerously close tobuying a SC, I have a couple of questions.

Do I need to run colder spark plugs?

Do I have to run with higher octane fuel?

Really want to keep87 octane unless it is totally required !!

My current tune is Brenspeed 87 octane

Any help would be appreciated

It's highly recommended to run colder plugs, but it depends on how much power you will be putting out. The tune dictates the octane but what's the point of not running higher octane which will gain you more power? Willing to spend $3k+ on a mod but not wanting to spend ~$5 more per tank? Not understanding that...

From what I hear you almost always have to run premium gas when you supercharge. And the plugs wouldn't be a bad since they will help prevent the cylinders from misfiring.

You have to run higher octane so there is no detonation. You don't want your engine to go boom.

I thought detonation was a fuel pressure issue ? Also I heard higher octane only improves gas mileage, with a proper tune, performance wise there is not much of a jump, anyone hear this too or am I crazy ?

thanks

no offense but crazy...higher octane is way better for you engine and burns cleaner (why do you want engine gunk?)...your willing to spend almost $5K on a single engine mod but are cheaping out on gas? Doesnt make sense...

No, it's not just a fuel pressure issue. Higher octane reduces knock. Basically you need enough fuel and a high enough octane. That's why pro race cars need much higher octane. So they can advance they're timing alot and not have to worry about detonation. Someone could go on all day about this stuff, but I'm not lol

Higher octane fuel is only better if your motor needs it.
If you are stock, then you don't need it. If you are aggressively tuned, have a high compression ratio and/or you are running boost - then you need higher octane.
Higher octane fuel is simply harder to combust than lower octane fuel. So 87 octane will combust easier than 93 octane.
Pre-detonation (pinging) is caused by your air-fuel mixture igniting BEFORE it should. It is lighting from either compression or a highly advanced timing setting. Pre-detonation can put a hole right through your cheap little pistons.
If you use 93 octane it will be farless likely to pre-detonate than 87 octane fuel. The 93 octane won't make you faster. It will just allow your motor to run correctly with more compression (boost adds compression to cylinder) or more timing advance.
So if you are going to join the forced induction club, you may want to re-consider your feeling about the fuel you use. The extra 5 bucks you spend may keep your motor in one piece.
I run 100 octane all the time because I am at 11 PSI on the stock bottom end.

The instructions I got with my Saleen supercharger had a big warning saying how I had better have at least 91 octane in my tank.

HT0 spark plugs
Minimum 91 oct gas

how it turns out
