maybe i'm not putting enough thought into this, but if you shifted at 4500k, where max torque is made, you may not be staying in the highest average torque per time range. yeah, the highest torque may come at 4500 rpm, but shifting at 6000 rpm may give you a better average torque than if you shifted at 4500 rpm as this may put youat a very low torque to begin with in the next gear, hence causinga less than optimal torque average for the amount of time in the gear. think of it as you get more area under the torque curve for each gear if you shift at higher rpms rather than at the max torque rpm. this is why it is better to shift at higher rpms.... I think. my dynamics are a little rusty.

I'm wondering where our cars start to make optimum power, and then dip off, so I can know, if and when I should downshift for power etc.
If you increaseredline to 6500rpm after installing the tune, and your car has the stock 3.31 gears, then the "sweet spots" for downshifting are approx.35-60 mph for 2nd(75 mph redline), andapprox. 70-100 mphfor 3rd(112 mph redline). Obviously, 1st gear is best for speeds up to30 mph, but it's almost never usedwhen d/s becauseofextreme difficulty involved, unlessone isgoing only 5-10 mph(But you knew that).
These speeds are where the product of the engine's torque and the gear's mechanical advantage are the highest, and thus will produce the fastest acceleration. If your car has the optional 3.55 gears, then the above speedswill beabout 5mph lower. Also, if youprogram a redline that's lower or higherthan 6500, then ratio your redline with 6500 to calculatethe different speed ranges.

Appreciate it, I have the 3.55 gears, but thats what I wanted to know the ranges for max power in the downshift....Also thanks to everyone else for the very informative explantions of HP/TQ.

I have 3.31 in mine and swear I am no-where near redline at 100 mph. Maybe mine got the wrong sticker. lol.

I think he meant it is optimal to downshift to third at around 70 to 100mph, not that 100mph was the redline for 3.31s. In the () he has 112 mph for 3rd gear. With my 3.55s I have hit the rev limitor plenty of times at the end of the 1/4 mile and my trap is usually around 107, so Im guessing my redline is right under 108.

That's exactly right. With 3.31's, 112 mph is the approx. speed for hitting a 6500 rpm redline(And approx. 107 mph for the stock 6250 rpm redline).
